Comparative cytogenetics between three Characidae fish species from the São Francisco River basin
نویسندگان
چکیده
Characidae is one of the predominant fish groups in the Neotropical region with approximately 30 highly diversified subfamilies, probably not representing a monophyletic group. Three Characidae species from the São Francisco River basin (Três Marias, MG, Brazil) were analyzed: Hasemania nana with 2n=50 chromosomes (8m+42sm), Orthospinus franciscencis with 2n=50 chromosomes (22m+20sm+2st+6a) and Piabina argentea with 2n=52 chromosomes (8m+14sm+16st+14a), all the species showing no differences between male and female karyotypes. The heterochromatin was preferentially distributed in the centromeric region of the chromosomes and the AgNORs were located in only a single chromosome pair in the three species. The chromosomal data obtained may be useful for the taxonomy and phylogenetic studies in those fish groups.

Karyotypic characterization of two species of the genus Serrapinnus (Characiformes, Characidae), with the description of a structural polymorphism in S. heterodon
The family Characidae, one of the largest and more diversified fish families in the Neotropical region, is certainly not a monophyletic group, which is supported by the cytogenetic data showing its extensive chromosome variability. In this work, two species of the genus Serrapinnus, S. heterodon and S. piaba, from the São Francisco river basin were analyzed. Both species presented the same dipl...

Karyotype diversity of four species of the incertae sedis group (Characidae) from different hydrographic basins: analysis of AgNORs, CMA3 and 18S rDNA.
A large number of genera in the tropical fish family Characidae are incertae sedis. Cytogenetic analysis was made of four of these species: Astyanax eigenmanniorum, Deuterodon stigmaturus, Hyphessobrycon luetkenii, and H. anisitsi, collected from various hydrographic basins: hydrographic system from Laguna dos Patos/RS, Tramandaí basin/RS and Tibagi River basin/PR. The first two species we...

Cytogenetic analyses were accomplished in two populations of Astyanax altiparanae Garutti & Britzki, 2000 and one population of Hyphessobrycon eques Steindachner, 1882, considered incertae sedis in Characidae family. Two populations of Astyanax altiparanae (Mogi-Guaçu and Tietê rivers) presented 2n=50, with the same karyotype formula: 6M+12SM+20ST+12A (FN=88). Hyphessobrycon eques from Capivara...

The Itapecuru is a relatively large river in the northeastern Brazilian state of Maranhão. During several expeditions to this basin, we collected 69 fish species belonging to 65 genera, 29 families and 10 orders. Characiformes and Siluriformes were the orders with the largest number of species and Characidae, Loricariidae, Cichlidae, Auchenipteridae and Pimelodidae were the richest families. Ab...
